CLIMATE OF

THE STATE OF QATAR

The country has what is described as a moderate desert climate. The winters are generally mild, with an avarage of 70mm of rain per year, which usally falls between October and March. Occasional heavy showers can be interspersed with light rain, and the first rains of the year -those which literally 'spot' the sand of the desrert , are called 'wasmi' from the Arabic 'wasm' or mark. Winter nights are cool, but temprature's don't usually drop below about 7 degrees Celsius. (However, strangely enough it ofyen feels much colder than it would at similar temperatures in Europe, and out in the desert the cold can feel biting at night if you're camping.) Summer temperatyres, by contrast, can saor to 50 degrees centigrade, with accompanying humidity often in excess of 95%.
